The morose golf betting odds on Rory McIlroy to be the Top European at this week’s The Barclays Tournament doesn’t necessarily make him an underlay wager.
McIlroy has been fantastic lately with two Top 3 finishes, story at the British Open and one at the PGA Championship, and a 9th place finish at the WGC-Bridgestone. The fact that Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell and the Molinari brothers are absent from this tournament has made Rory’s job a lot easier.

But if McIlroy isn’t an underlay bet to be the First-rate European at The Barclays this week, is he an overlay bet?
PGA Tour: The Barclays
Where: Ridgwood CC, Paramus, NJ
When: August 26th thru 29th, 2010
Par/Yardage: Par 71, Yards 7319
TV: Golf, CBS

Summit European
Most successfully Bet A: Rory McIlroy +180
The answer is…uh…heck, yeah! At +180 McIlroy is a serious overlay to be the best Euro player at this week’s The Barclays. He’s been sensational lately. How phenomenal has Rory been? He’s shot 69 or better in 9 unfashionable of his last 12 rounds on the PGA Walkabout He shot a 69, 68 and 63 in three of the four rounds at the British Passable At the PGA Championship he shot a 68 Round 2 and a 69 Approximate 3. The man is playing heads and tails above his competition in this category. I was with a bun in the oven the golf betting odds on Rory to be -110 to be the Top European this week, not +180.
Best Wager B: Justin Rose +700
Forget the incident that he’s missed the cut in 2 out of his last 3 PGA Tournament starts. The truth is that Rose has as much of a shot as anybody, outside of Rory, of being this week’s Top European. Justin won both the Memorial and the AT&T National and finished 9th at the Traveler’s Championship. He’s ranked 9th in par 4 performance and 8th in total putting on the PGA Turn
Worst Golf Wager: Padraig Harrington +380
Oh, I’m fully aware that Paddy could burn me in this category, but I can’t back the throw at what I consider bawl golf betting odds. Padraig has reveal signs of a strong game this year, he finished 3rd at the WGC-CA and 5th at the Travelers, but he’s also choked at the majors with a missed cut at the Master, the British Open and the PGA Championship. I was expecting +450 or perhaps even +500 on Paddy not +380 on him to be the Zenith European this week.
Best Underdog Chance Ian Poulter +1300
Since his mastery at the WGC-Accenture on February 21st, Ian has been downright horrendous on the PGA Tour. Poulter hasn’t finished in the First 10 since the Masters in April. In fact, he hasn’t finished better than 47th in a tournament since the 10th place finish at the Masters. Poulter is coming off of a withdraw from the PGA Championship. That retreat came on the heels of a 65th at the WGC-Bridgestone and a 60th at the British Direct. Why do I like him as an underdog in this variety this week, then? Because Poulter has great ability and perhaps, just perhaps, he withdrew from the PGA Championship in order to spend a pair of weeks getting agreeable for this. If that’s the case, then who knows what this enigmatic man will do with a union in his hand at The Barclays?
