Mathematically speaking, Ryan Newman (+3000), Jamie McMurray (+3000), and Mark Martin (+3000) are still thronging. That said, any of them making the Top 12 is an outermost prolonged shot; they would not only have to win the race unconditional, but they’d also need someone is concerned 11 th place Greg Biffle (+1800) or 12 th place Clint Bower (+2500) to have a disastrous race. Biffle clinches a spot with any finish of 42 nd or better, while Bower clinches with a terminate of 28 th or better.
As such, the stage is set for a thrilling channel this Saturday. Since points are getting reset for playoff participants anyway, there is no advantage to playing it risk-free. All of the Garnish 10 drivers will be going for the win, which should provide for some significant entertainment.
Kyle Busch (+400) is the NASCAR betting odds favorite on Saturday’s race, and rightfully so. On top of being in top set up right now, Busch has simply dominated the Richmond Oecumenical Speedway. Nine of his 11 races here resulted in top-five finishes, including two wins in his last three.
Jimmie Johnson (+600) and Denny Hamlin (+500) enter the race tied with a NASCAR-best five wins on the season. Hamlin should be confident as he won this event last year. Johnson has not raced well here recently, but won three of the four events held here in 2007-08.
Jeff Gordon (+1000), Carl Edwards (+1200), Jeff Burton (+1500), and Matt Kenseth (+3000) will all be looking for their first win of the season, which would be a huge boost of confidence heading into the Sprint Cup. Gordon has seven consecutive top-10 finishes at this track, including a second-place finish in the first race here earlier this year. Burton has also raced proficiently here recently, with two top-five finishes in his last three races. Kenseth’s long odds are due to his lack of success at Richmond; seven of his last eight attempts have all finished casing the top 10.
Tony Stewart (+1000), Kevin Harvick (+1200), and Kurt Busch (+1500) round out the top 10. Stewart has three top-five finishes in his last five races here. Harvick has been consistent at Richmond, finishing in the top 10 in 10 of his last 11 races. Busch hasn’t raced particularly well here, but did pick up a win back in 2005.
