The Emmy betting is getting searing and beer-bellied, and in sizing up the field for Best Actress in a Drama Series there are three overfamiliar faces to come off c come on with three actresses who are new arrivals on the list. The great Glenn Close, the comet of "Damages," has won the award in each of the mould two years, and she will be hard to beat once again. However, the Emmy betting favorite here is Julianna Margulies of "The Good Wife" at -150. The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be shown on NBC live at 8 PM ET on Sunday (August 29).

Betting Odds to Win
Best Drama Actress

Julianna Margulies -150
Kyra Sedgwick +600
Glenn Close +450
Mariska Hargitay +800
Connie Britton +600
January Jones +700

JULIANNA MARGULIES is on a roll. The star of "The Good Wife," which has received uncertain acclaim, as well an Emmy nomination championing Best Drama Series, won the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, essentially for this type, and she is a rather well-substantiated favorite in the Emmy betting odds at -150. She is in a new series, but is not necessarily kid on the block. Margulies was nominated six times since her task on "ER," and won an Emmy for the Supporting category in 1995. Yes, she’s dreadful here.

Can anyone beat her?

Well, there’s GLENN CLOSE, who has won this trophy the last two years, and is unexceptionally absorbing in her position as Patty Hewes on "Damages," which keeps getting more and more intriguing. A two-time winner on a show that is still going strong and is +450 in the Emmy betting odds is someone who just might make it there again.

Everyone seems to love KYRA SEDGWICK for her task in TNT’s "The Closer," and she has now been nominated five times in a row for it, but she has yet to win. Do you think maybe this could be the year? The sportsbook apparently doesn’t think so, as she is +600 in the Emmy betting odds this year.

Sedgwick might have to get in line among the "It’s My Turn" brigade. MARISKA HARGITAY, the daughter of Jayne Mansfield, is enjoying her sixth nomination for Lead Actress in seven years for "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," and for bigwig like her, you get to thinking whether it’s just a case of her being extent the best without being THE best. I don’t differentiate about this one, but didn’t Paul Newman, Geraldine Page and Al Pacino all recoup nominated a smock of times before finally enchanting an Oscar?

CONNIE BRITTON of "Friday Night Lights" is an intriguing nominee, but like her co-star, Kyle Chandler, who is also nominated, she is a first-timer in this category and is not so attention-getting as some of the others here. Yeah, I liked her here and on "Spin City" and accomplish that she was also in the movie version of this 101 Network/NBC series, but there is too much to overcome here.

Finally, there is JANUARY JONES of "Mad Men," who intrigues reciprocate more than Britton because, at +700 in the Emmy betting odds, she is at a long consequence on a show that could conceivably sweep a number of categories. It’s one thing to find out that your husband is guilty of a few things here and there, like Margulies character has, but to get out that hubby is a different myself entirely is quite another. Jones has that experience, and also comes off convincingly creepy in another situation. There are a lot of people who are mad in "Mad Men," and you mightiness be able to make a lot of shin-plasters parlaying her and Jon Hamm with the Emmy odds on each.

JAY’S PLAY: JONES (+700) **
(Graded on a scale of 1-4 stars)
